
DR. RUI MELO CORDEIRO
Rui Melo Cordeiro dedicates his professional practice mainly in Restructuring and Recovery of Companies, Real Estate, Tourism, Environment and Energy.
Before founding RMC – Rui Melo Cordeiro Lawyers, he was an Associate Lawyer at MGRA, Law Society, RL, between 2011 and 2015, being responsible for the creation and management of the Ponta Delgada and São Roque do Pico Offices, in the Azores Archipelago.
He has coordinated several multidisciplinary teams in the framework of complex corporate transactions, from the implementation of business plans, start-ups, internationalization of companies, restructurings, acquisitions and mergers.
Main positions held:
– Member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Football League; from July 2016 to July 2017;
– Advisor for environmental issues in the Regional Council of Strategic Concertation in the Regional Government of the Azores; 2013 – 2016.
– Chairman of Clube Desportivo Santa Clara; from June 2015 – 2021.
– Chairman of the Board of Directors of Santa Cara Azores Futebol SAD; June 2015 – 2021.
– President of Quercus, São Miguel Regional Council – Azores; from 2012 to 2015.
Education:
- Graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 2007.
- Post-Graduation in Environment, Spatial Planning, Urban Planning and Tourism Law from the Institute for Legal and Political Sciences of the Lisbon University Law School.
- Master in Law – Mention Juridical-Political Sciences – Specialty Environmental Juridical Sciences from the Lisbon Faculty of Law, with the thesis: Biosphere Reserves. Between Concept and Practice. For an Environmental Ius Approach”.Participated in several conferences and written several scientific articles, including “The challenges of biodiversity protection in the Autonomous Region of the Azores: a path to follow?” in The Law Books n.º 6: Environmental Law Themes Almedina, 2011 and “Ubi Ius Ibi Remedium? – The Legitimacy of the Regions and the Impugnation of EU Acts Harmful to the Environment after the Lisbon Treaty”, Evaluation Report on International and European Environmental Law, available for consultation at the Lisbon University Law School Library.
